A.K Johnston 610 x 500 mmD1 / M178 / I93Excellent condition. Wide margins. Very minor foxing.

By 1844 the extent of explored regions in Australia was still generally minor in relation to the size of the continent. The gold rushes were yet to have begun and only the small colonies on the southern parts of Australia were established. The State of South Australian is prominently displayed and the words Unexplored can be seen on the top part of the continent. The possibility of the continent having an internal sea was still on the minds of many explorers. The coloured regions show the counties around Sydney and Perth. This map is a fine example of pre Queensland Australia.
