This chart is the first of the beautiful world heritage Australian Island of Lord Howe. Lord Howe was discovered by Ball on his journey to set up a second English settlement on Norfolk Island. The First Fleet had arrived in Sydney less than a month before when the region around Lord Howe Island had never been explored. Ball was in charge of the First Fleet ship Supply, which remained with the settlement as a transport and supply ship.

The chart shows both a layout of the island and a view showing the elevations as well as the two impressive mountains. Many ships used elevations as a navigational aid for easy identification of the islands as relying on coordinates only could often result in inaccurate calculations.
