Robert Howe 400 x 540 mmD1 / M254 / I181Some original pre-printing creases. Half of last page neatly cut off. Small tears and foxing as expected.

The Sydney Gazette was Australia's first newspaper, beginning operation in 1803. The paper was founded by George Howe whose son Robert would eventually take control of the paper in 1821. Initially the paper was issued weekly and then in 1825 the paper was issued consistently bi-weekly. The paper continued until 1842 when possibly because of increased competition from papers such as the Sydney Morning Herald it ceased operation.

The Sydney Gazette is a very interesting insight into daily life in Sydney. Newspapers tend to preserve the kind of history that is not considered noteworthy at the time but which in hindsight is incrediably interesting. It is a very rare newspaper and the early editions are rarely seen on the market.

This rare and interesting piece of Sydney and Australia's heritage is ideal for frameing and would be a fascinating display piece.
