The Sydney Morning Herald was first founded in 1831 and was called the Sydney Herald. In 1841 it was purchased by John Fairfax who renamed it to its current title. The paper gradually increased its publication, from once a week until it became a daily newspaper.
There are a number of interesting notices, articles, news and advertisements in this broadsheet. One in particular asks for submissions for the design of the 'new' Town Hall, which sits today on George Street in Sydney.
Consisting of four pages, two sheets, this early broadsheet gives an interesting insight into daily life in Sydney in 1843. The front page is ideal for framing and would constitute an interesting display piece.
