This very interesting map charts the voyage of William Bligh after he was set adrift during the Mutiny on the Bounty in 1789. He would then sail over 6000kms from Tofoa (Tonga) to Bativa (Indonesia). The map also has three inset maps that show the New Hebrides, Bligh's Island and his discoveries and charting of part of the northern coastline of Australia (QLD). This remarkable chart comes from a German edition of Blighs voyage published most likely a year after the English edition in 1792. However this map can be considered a superior example because of the inset maps and additional hatching not found on the English edition.

William Bligh had a very interesting career and though it would be embroiled in controversy he would become a very important figure in especially the history of Australasia. Originally accompanying Captain Cook during his third voyage he would be present during the death of Cook in Hawaii in 1779. Some years later he would be involved in the infamous Mutiny on the Bounty in 1789 and notably he would become the fourth Governor of Australia in 1806 and was subsequently arrested in 1808 during the 'Rum Rebellion' in Sydney.
