THE HISTORY OF NEW HOLLAND, from its First Discovery in 1616, to the Present Time. With a Particular Account of its Produce and Inhabitants; and a Description of Botany Bay: also, A List of the Naval, Marine, Military, and Civil Establishment. To which is prefixed, An Introductory Discourse on Banishment, by the Right Honorable William Eden. A very important book on the history of Australia and its proposed settlement. For this reason it is a book that focuses on the very cross road of the continent between Dutch exploration and the plans of the First Fleet to settle Botany Bay. The book is octavo in size and contains one map (of two), showing the route of the First Fleet (“passage from England to Botany Bay in New Holland 1787”) the other map of the Australian continent is absent. It has been rebound in later quarter calf. The example comes from the Pilkington collection.
