A large map of the world by Laurie & Whittle exhibiting all the quality of execution that they produced, especially in their large format maps. The design of the compass rose and cartouche are prominent on the map even though it is not overly decorative

The world map is the first chart in the very rare and valuable "Complete East India Pilot". The chart is centered on the Atlantic with the Australian coast between Peter's Isle and Cape Northumberland still missing, due to the discoveries of Peron and Flinders not yet having been published, even though both voyages were some 7 years earlier. The chart shows the tracks of the voyages of Vasco da Gama (1498), Gore's and Clerke's voyages of the north Pacific, Captain Butler's voyage to China in the Walpole (1794), Captain Vancouver (1791-94), and Commander James from Bombay to Madras (1754 & 1755). In this later state of the 1808 edition of the map the instruction for the distance scale is printed in the top left corner of the map. Perry/Prescott 1808.02
