Map makerSizeMap IDCondition
M Buache 190 x 220 mmD1 / M377 / I351Excellent condition

A very interesting map of the southern hemisphere focusing on the southern pole and Australia. This is the English edition of Buache's map which theorizes on the shape of the Antartic landmass. Interestingly it is roughly the same shape as Australia. Australia is shown with New Guinea and Tasmania connected to the Australian continent as was thought until Cook and Bass' voyages.

The map comes attached to the January 1763 issue of 'Gentelman's Magazine' which has been disbound from the whole journal. The article discusses theories surrounding the Antartic, among others.
