Blackwood's map of the Southern Pacific is based on James Cook's 1773 chart of the same area. In this case the map was produced to be included in "Kerrs collection of voyages and travels". As mentioned on the map it shows the ship tracks of Anson, Byron, Wallis, Carteret and Cook's voyages in the region. Blackwood eventually started his own magazine, called 'Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine', which was issued from 1817 until long after his death in 1834.
